SFMOMA blog - Collection Rotation

The SFMOMA blog Open Space posted their first installment of a new monthly feature called “Collection Rotation”.
Bay Area artists Scott Hewicker and Cliff Hengst, who are also musicians, record collectors, and DJs, were asked to select works from the permanent collection of the SFMOMA and pair them with song clips. Each month another local guest will remix the permanent collection.
The results are pretty successful, and add another layer of dimension to both the paintings & the songs.
Click here to see & hear the full rotation.
The above work by Chris Johanson, Untitled (Figures With Black Shape), 2002 was paired with Flipper’s “Ha Ha Ha”, from Blowin’ Chunks: Live at CBGB’s, Roir, 1984.

Anyone interested in artists like Chris Johanson, or Barry “Twist” McGee (featured below) should check out the new art doc Beautiful Losers. Directed by Aaron Rose, the film features many of the pioneers of the DIY art scene, including Chris Johanson and Mr McGee, as well as others like Shephard Fairey, Ed Templeton, etc.
Check it out if you want at http://www.beautifullosers.com !
(sidenote: they are selling a number of limited edition posters for the film as well at http://www.storebeautifullosers.com, although they are going really fast, i don’t know if they have any left)
