Ryan McGinley @ Ratio 3

I checked out the opening of Ryan McGinley’s show ‘Spring and by Summer Fall’ a couple weeks ago, since there was so much hype surrounding the show (McGinley, now 29, was the youngest artist to have a solo show at the Whitney five years ago).
The show at Ratio 3 was the New York artist’s West Coast debut solo exhibition, and features color photographs that chronicle the summer road trips he has taken across the United States in the past three years.
From the press release … “Inspired by images from nudist magazines from the 1960s and early 1970s, McGinley places his naked subjects in unusual and breathtaking situations. McGinley uses the vast and varied landscape of the U.S. as his backdrop, from arid deserts to lush green fields.”
The show certainly lived up to the hype, and I walked away pretty impressed with the body of work.
The show run from May 9 - June 21, 2008 … be sure to check it out if you can.
