The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art announced the recipients of the 2008 SECA Art Award a few days ago: Tauba Auerbach, Desirée Holman, Jordan Kantor, and Trevor Paglen.

Administered by SECA (Society for the Encouragement of Contemporary Art), an SFMOMA auxiliary, the biennial award honors local artists of exceptional promise with an exhibition at the museum (February 14 through May 17, 2009 at the SFMOMA) , an accompanying catalogue, and a modest cash prize.

Some notable finalists for the 2008 SECA award whose art I dig include: Monica Canilao, Packard Jennings, Keegan McHargue, Andrew Schoultz and Paul Wackers.

Be sure to read Glen Helfand’s blog post at SFBG.com about the 2008 SECA art awards recipients, as well as those for Bay Area Now 5.
